ThingsezIsee’m (TICM) is a non-profit dance/theater company that is a multi-media artistic venture under the direction of David Grenke. Founded in 1994 in New York City, TICM was formed to conceive and perform new works that challenge traditional notions of dance by infusing the methodologies of dance, music, theater, and the visual arts.
The company has performed internationally throughout Europe and Asia, in addition to New York institutions such as The Joyce Theater, Dance Theater Workshop, PACE Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, Riverside Church, and the 92nd Street Harkness Dance Center.
David Grenke
David Grenke is a Master Choreographer, Teacher, and Creator. A former principal dancer for the Paul Taylor Dance Company, he moved forward in the world to found and direct ThingsezIsee’m Dance/Theater, and Stoopid Dance Company, “Originality is an understatement when applied to the zany and profound dances of Davis Grenke.” Anna Kisselgoff, the New York Times both companies dedicated to challenging the traditional notions of dance.
His works have been presented in New York at Lincoln Center, Dance Theatre Workshop’s Fresh Track Series, The Guggenheim Museum’s Works and Process Series, The Dia Center for the Arts, Pace University and Riverside Church. Outside New York his works have been performed at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The American Dance Festival, The Cannes International Festival, Kaatsbaan International Festival, and on tours of Russia, Poland, Denmark, Taiwan and Argentina. Support for these tours has come from the U.S. Embassy, Trust for Mutual Understanding, and the Harkness Foundation.
Mr. Grenke is a recipient of ADF’s 1998 Doris Duke Award for new work, the 1997 Scripps/ADF Humphrey-Weidman-Limón Fellow for Choreography, and the Nora Kaye Award for dance. He participated in the American Dance Festival’s 1997 International Choreographers Commissioning Program, where he was in residence creating new work on ADF dancers. Grenke is Professor of Dance at the University of California, Davis, and proudly sits on the Paul Taylor American Modern Dance Choreographic Governance Committee.
