Sharon Springs Poetry Festival 2017

This was no ordinary event! Pulitzer Prize winner, internationally known poet and Sharon Springs resident Paul Muldoon came to us with the idea and was instrumental in making it happen.

Festival events included:

  • Student workshops at Sharon Springs Central School and Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School.
  • Free public reading Friday, October 20, 6:00 – 7:30 PM by three nationally recognized poets: Major Jackson, Robert Pinsky, and Monica Youn at the Sharon Springs Central School Auditorium.
  • Plus, a free poetry workshops (limited to twelve participants) with Paul Muldoon and Major Jackson at the Sharon Springs Free Library on Saturday October 21.

To accommodate demand, a second free poetry workshop has been added on Saturday, October 21. The additional workshop was conducted by Major Jackson at the Sharon Springs Free Library, 10 AM – 12 PM.

It’s was all free to the public thanks to our generous donors.

Klinkhart Hall Arts Center depends on donations from individuals, foundations, corporations and public agencies to support its programming activities.

This event is made possible by a generous anonymous grant, with additional funding from the Sharon Springs Walmart Distribution Center, Cherry Valley-Springfield Endowment Foundation, Lappeus Funeral Home, and from Poets & Writers, Readings and Workshops program, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Generous in-kind support was received from 204 Main Bistro, the American Hotel, and the Black Cat Cafe, all in Sharon Springs, NY.
